I think the most reliable way is to fetch the related Charges, and see if any of them failed: https://docs.stripe.com/api/charges/list#list_charges-payment_intent

As you read correctly, it will be cleared as soon as you modify the PaymentIntent.

Meaning, even if there's no change to the charges (one still is failed), but some other attribute of payment intent is modified, we'll receive a null last_payment_error?
