@vivid palm Looks like you want to use SetupIntents instead if you are trying to save card details for a future off session payment made hours later.

also - is it possible to get the last 4 digits of the cc for record keeping and customer interactions?

Yes, it works the same as PaymentIntent, you get a PaymentMethod pm_1234 that has the card details
