ok, so we would have to use this customer cash balance and not credit

ah ok, so if we want to use it as a wallet we would need to use the credit balance and it wouldn't be used to pay overdue invoices, only new ones

and to add credit to the client we probably have to create the payment intent so the client pays for it and then add it as a credit to be used in future invoices right?

there's not a feature to do that directly, right?

Correct. Ideally, you'd model the wallet functionality on the application level.

For example,
Customer wants to add $50, you charge the customer $50 and update their credit balance with $50. Then you create an invoice for whatever amount which then is offset by the credit baalnce.
