Because the default behaviour of that endpoint is to invoice now for any unbilled items. You can set that off via invoice_now: https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscription_schedules/cancel#cancel_subscription_schedule-invoice_now
In that specific case it was proration (credit) for the unused time on the period

Alternatively you may want to disable the proration items entirely so that they're not billed on a future invoice for that customer: https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscription_schedules/cancel#cancel_subscription_schedule-prorate
