To be clear, are you taking payment immediately after the setup succeeds? In that case, it would be better to use Checkout in payment mode as that can prevent the user from having to do 3DS twice on a single payment.

Actually, depending on the situation, the easiest thing to do could be to use our official subscription offering and tell Checkout to have the subscription cycle on the 1st
