We are writing to bring to your attention some regulatory changes[0] that have taken place in Spain in relation to the issuance and use of Virtual IBANs (VBANs) for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing.
Stripe was notified on August 1st that we must cease onboarding new merchants and accepting new bank transfers payments to ES VBANs. Unfortunately, Stripe has no control over this decision.

As a result, after <date> Stripe will no longer support ES as a valid value under the country parameter and you should set the IBAN displayed to the customer to one of the other localized VBANs[1] Stripe offers. As an alternative to ES, it’s possible to set the country parameter to one of BE, FR, IE or NL[2]across the respective APIs.
