from what i have read, would i create the subscription then immediately set it to expire?
Hi, you can track this on your end. Before the subscription renews and after you get the confirmation that the customer does not want to renew, you can then cancel the subscription: https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/cancel

i use the stripe checkout page, my flow would therefore be:
- user pays on checkout page
2, stripe accepts payment and begins subscription - a webhook call will be made to my system where i give them access to my site and i would at this point cancel the stripe subscription,
- if the user clicks to continue the subscription, all i do is resume it
does that make sense and is possible?
i basically want them to not have a running subscription unless they choose to, and this seems the easiest way
It might be better if you just paused the collection: https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/update#update_subscription-pause_collection and then resume the subscription instead.

why is pausing better? can it remain paused indefinitely?
