maybe I'm missing something but we say in the docs United States is not supported (it's not in the list you linked) so it seems expected for the option to not show up when the billing address is in that country

How can I allow tax ID collection in the US though?

I don't beleive it's supported today, it's something you'd have to collect manually outside of Checkout today

it's not a perfect solution but you can collect the ID in your own UI, create a Customer, add the ID to them(https://docs.stripe.com/billing/customer/tax-ids?dashboard-or-api=api#managing) , then create the CheckoutSession passing that customer ID

I see, is there a way to validate the tax ID through Stripe's API?

I believe the API validates the format against the ID type. Not necessairly that it exists/is correct for the company
