Afraid not, you can call this endpoint (https://docs.stripe.com/api/invoices/create_preview) once you have a sub_xxx ID to get a preview of the next invoice
Complete reference documentation for the Stripe API. Includes code snippets and examples for our Python, Java, PHP, Node.js, Go, Ruby, and .NET libraries.
is there a particular difference from calling invoices/create_preview and invoices/upcoming?
Mainly that a preview invoice is an actual API object that can be retrieved (it has a unique ID etc)
You can also use preview_mode to get a 'recurring' preview which removes any one-time items that might be set on the related customer etc: https://docs.stripe.com/api/invoices/create_preview#create_create_preview-preview_mode
