I don't understand the question
For example, if the customer currently has a regular subscription (that is part way through the term), and I want to upgrade them to a subscription schedule (with several phases)
yes, I was looking at that. I guess I need to add the current subscription to the new subscription schedule, and end it immediately?
You don't need to end anything immmediately. You'd set the dates in the schedule for when to transition to the next phase
I believe the update example in that articale doesn't involve a currently existing subscription.
