My guess is it's because the rounding is done at the item level, not at the invoice level: https://docs.stripe.com/billing/taxes/tax-rates?item-or-group-level=line-item-level
So it's the sum of 8.875% rounded per item
As opposed to a blanket $9420*0.08875 rounded
But then isn't tax applicable at an overall invoice and not on individual items?
No it's assessed on a per item basis (some items may be exempt depending on tax codes)

Hey @tawny salmon sorry a follow up question. Is it assessed on a per item basis or a per tax rate basis? As in do we apply the entire rate over an item and follow the process for each item or take a tax rate (city tax for example), compute the amount and then do it for all the rates that apply?
