@lapis swift you can only put a hold on a card for 7 days mostly. It's not possible to do longer. If you have a waitlist that's longer, it's best to not take any payment upfront, and charge closer to when someone goes off the waitlist.
If you think about it, it's similar to Kickstarter for example or preorders on Amazon where they collect card details upfront but only charge you once the project completes or the item is ready to ship.
