Sure, will I incur a fee when a free trial subscription gets created? (As opposed to when they actually get billed for it?)

Okay then. Is authorization collected once the free trial ends?

If there is a payment method attached to the customer, a payment will be attempted after the trial ends. I recommend that you test all of this using out Test Clock

Fishy are payments that charge-refund the customer ~1-50 cents to collect the authorization during a free trial.
