Redemptions is number of customers who have redeemed the coupon. You can set the amount of time that the coupon applies for by duration_in_months https://docs.stripe.com/api/coupons/create#create_coupon-duration_in_months

so if its a yearly subscription and i want the coupon to apply twice, i just make duration_in_months equal to 12 months?

I think you may need to make that at 24 months. We apply discounts if the coupon is still active, so if it expires at the 12 month mark, we wouldn't apply the discount to the next invoice.
