👋 Welcome to your new thread!

@muted dust my understanding is that this is expected behaviour today but let me confirm quickly
Interesting, I thought that users would be shown some UI to ask them if they want to create a Stripe Link account. Especially since that UI is displayed if I don't explicitly provide the email and allow the element to detect it itself
Yep I can repro and it's been like this since launch unfortunately. Something we want to improve in the future but not high on our priority list just yet

Thank you for confirming that you can reproduce this bug. What is the accepted workaround given this is a known bug?
I never said the word bug though. There is no workaround, in that case they can't save their card details with Link if you prefill the email
I mean at this point it's semantics. However, the known functionality directly contradicts the expected behavior described in Stripe docs under the "Collect customer email" section of the Link integration guide:
In this flow, you maintain email collection in your own form field before the customer reaches the payment step, and then pass the email to the Payment Element. The Payment Element authenticates the customer at the payment step and either shows the customer’s payment details saved in their Link account, or displays the Link account creation form.
It says here that once we pass the email to the Payment Element the user will either be prompted to authenticate or be shown the account creation form
I'm surprised this isn't a high priority given that our Stripe account rep has given us an incentive to integrate given that our integration drives user sign ups. This functionality directly impedes our ability to get users to sign up. I'm not sure what we should do in this scenario? Do you have any suggestions?
I don't have any specific suggestion sorry. And nice find on that doc/quote, that helps make a case for it internally.
All good, thanks for looking into this for me! Yeah hopefully that doc helps garner a little more resources toward an update here. We'll reach out to our account rep regarding how we should proceed in the meantime
