When I look at that Invoice I'm not seeing any failed attempt on it - is it that a separate, earlier invoice failed?

So I think what's happening is that the retry you're triggering manually through the dashboard is going through the legacy ACH flow that existed to support Invoices, which is why it's not requiring a mandate

So we can expect that to happen to other customers we did the same thing to and that still have the payment as "Pending", right?

Yup! If you're seeing those payments as pending and they have no mandate, they likely also went through the legacy flow
