@silk dust You mean that I have a monthly installment for 12 months and you don't want me to pay with my credit card that expires in December 2024 for example?
Yes, imagine you're a member of a sports club for example
Membership is annually 100$
However, some members would like to pay in installments, so I'll create another recurring subscription product that charges them 100/12 per month?
And I would like to make sure that their credit card expiry date is not before they've paid the full subscription for the year (the 12x installments for example)
why?
Many banks will let the payment go through even after December 2024. I just paid my home insurance last night and they still have my card number for 3 years ago and it worked fine because the bank knows they charged me before.
We also work closely with banks to automatically update card details after it expires and it's all automated.
Finally, I could have a card that expires on June 2027 and still ask my bank to block payments
So really I would recommend not doing this. You can never guarantee the card will work next month. But relying on the expiry date is going to just annoy your customers

Gotcha, thanks a lot!
So the bank would sometimes charge the person with the expired card as they know they'll be able to recollect it later / they have updated KYC of that person anyways etc?
And by December 2024 you mean you'd still have 6 months of subscriptions to pay, correct? (just to clarify - as in not just the last month/last installment of the year)
with the expired card as they know they'll be able to recollect it later
I don't really get your sentence here. I paid with the 4242 card that expires in December 2024. My bank knows who I am, they know how to get money from me
And by December 2024 you mean you'd still have 6 months of subscriptions to pay, correct? (just to clarify - as in not just the last month/last installment of the year)
yes! I just used a concrete example to make sure we were talking about the same thing
Yes, clear
Subscription starting July 2024
Card expires December 2024
You’re saying when the card is expired and the member hasn’t updated his credentials on stripe they will still get charged as stripe will process the transaction and the bank will pass the transaction as they know that member?
We will try and the bank might say yes, or not. We also try to update the card. And if all fails, you treat it the same as any declines that can happen and you get the customer to come and update their card details!
Thanks a lot! All clear for now - love your responsiveness and explanation. Will definitely reach out again 🤗
