Hello! That's not correct, no. Also, it depends on how the Customer Portal is configured. If you have the Portal configured to cancel the Subscription immediately you'd see a customer.subscription.deleted Event fire immediately and the status of the Subscription would be canceled. If you have the Portal configured to not cancel immediately it would fire a customer.subscription.updated Event, the status would still be active, and it's likely cancel_at_period_end would be true.
So, how do I cancel the subscription in 20 days? Ideally, I would receive some type of event when the subscription actually ends so I can respond to it and revoke access.
Oh, sorry, I left that part out. In the second scenario, when the Subscription cancels in the future, you do get a customer.subscription.deleted when it actually cancels.
You can create a Customer Portal Configuration that specifies when the Subscription should be canceled: https://docs.stripe.com/api/customer_portal/configurations/create#create_portal_configuration-features-subscription_cancel-mode
