then once you receive the checkout.session.completed you can get the payment method ID by retrieving the PaymentIntent on the Checkout Session and use that to update the customer's invoice_settings.default_payment_method

I need a help as, checkout.session.completed for zero dollar subscription plan does not have key "payment_method" but I see for payment which has a some dollar amount does have "payment_method" key.

Yes, if there's no payment (i.e. zero-amount subscription) then payment_intent will be null. In that scenario you can expand the subscription field and use the default_payment_method field
