I think the best way for you to have the best of both world is to move to the new confirmation tokens design

where you send the confirmation token to your backend after collecting the Payment Details, you do your checks on the backend side and then create your Payment Method and finally you send the client_secret back to the frontend to confirm it using the already created confirmation token
