Hello! How are you facilitating the copy/migration?
Stripe acct to stripe acct, self serve. Not sure I understand the question.
Details here, for example: https://docs.stripe.com/get-started/data-migrations/pan-copy-self-serve
You can only self-serve copy some data, specially certain payment details can't be copied
That should be fine, it's almost 100% cards which the page says are fine.
I guess that answers the first question, about the second I am unsure. We always use the test card #, but in this case when we copy customers, I don't know how it works since I've never done it. Test customers are segregated
I suppose I could simply export the list and make test customers all using the 4242 card if needed. But I am unsure how it's usually done when doing something like this.
Well you can't charge real card data in test mode so that hypothetical dry run just isn't possible. It's a legitmate concern, but following the guidance above should ensure that the payment data is correctly copied/migrated so that we can optimise for the payments succeeding uninterrupted. Obviously, as per any integration, there could be declines/failures so you need to be able to handle those gracefully
I see. Then I will simply export the list and create test customers rather than copy real cards to the test environment since that isn't supported. Thank you. Sorry for bothering about these fairly basic things, I just want to be 100% sure since it's an important step for us.
np, it's a big deal! If you've concerns at all I'd recommend reaching out to our migrations team who can help: https://support.stripe.com/contact/login?email=true&subject=Migration+to+Stripe
