How are you integrating with subscription? Is it through Checkout Session or direct Subscription API?

Through Laravel Cashier. Although all thats being done is creating the subscription with billing method as "Send invoice".
We were hoping that when the customer paid the first invoice that it would automatically charge the customers next invoice for that subscription - thats what we're looking for
We are using Stripes built in Billing portal when customers are paying their invoice

Thanks for sharing the information. Stripe doesn't change the collection method to charge_automatically automatically after the payment is first paid.
If the payment method used supports recurring payment such as card, your system can update the subscription to charge_automatically, so that the future invoice will be under automatic payment

Subscription Update API can be used: https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/update with setting collection_method to charge_automatically
