Hello, sorry to hear that that is how that went. I was not aware that we did not calculate local tax. Let me double check and look in to this.
Unfortunately I can't speak to our design decisions or why we do or don't have certain capabilities but will see what I can find.
I really appreciate that!
I found it very surprising since there are so many large customers using the Stripe Tax API and I cant imagine that Stripe would allow that many customers to break tax laws
But maybe I was told incorrect info
Especially since other APIs like the one below return correct tax rates based on zip code
In our Stripe Tax, only the state tax (6.25%) was calculated based on the same zip code and the 2% city tax was ignored
We seem to reference our ability to calculate local tax in our docs at various points. It sounds like we do support sales tax in the US, though I can imagine we might not support every local tax. Unfortunately this is still outside of the realm of an API question as this isn't configurable at the API level. I think the support agent may have been confused and the next best step would be to talk to them about this again
