Hi there, please reach out to Support as they are more familiar with Payout than us here. But my advice is try to setup a scenario to test in Test Mode
 Have a non-technical question, account issue, or need one-on-one support?
We wish we could help, but this community is focused on developers and technical discussions. Our support team will be able to assist you better than we can: https://support.stripe.com/contact
Thanks. Unfortunately, since the documentation says "can't control whether" that suggests that the behavior is contingent on some set of circumstances which are left undescribed. I can't set up a Test scenario without knowing what the relevant factors are or I may easily get a false positive.
Is the general support team tech savvy enough to answer these types of questions?
(2) seems like a tech question. How do I specify when creating a transfer that I want it to come from the relevant fund?
Yes generally Automatic Payout will systematically generate the amount from your Stripe balance ... more to Support
And re: transfer, it will simply take from available Stripe balance. We don't have a parameter to control any other source
I apologize. I remain confused. To me it sounded like you said both ways it would draw from the general stripe balance. How do I get it to come from the Connect Payout balance as referred to at the help page I linked to?
From the help page you linked it's the Platform balance indeed, so Platform Payout will automatically be taken from there
When you transfer from Platform to Connected Account, it will also automatically transfer from there
There is one Stripe Balance
Thanks for your continued help.
I'm referring to the "purpose", where it says: "Add Funds to:" and one option is "Pay out connected accounts"
Whether or not it is in the same "one Stripe Balance", it seems like that is reserving(?) those funds to be used in a certain way.
But I don't see any more documentation than this. Am I to assume that trnasfers from Platform to Connected Account will draw from these funds first, and then if they run out, will draw from remaining funds?
Tbh, that doesn't seem to be the case in my tests:
- I have a large positive balance from incoming payments,
- I have 0 funds in my Top Up funds,
- I tried to transfer $10 to a connected account
- I recieved an "insufficient funds" response.

Maybe I misunderstood part of what you said: when you said "Platform balance" maybe that's what I was calling "Connect Payout balance"? Is that right? I got confused by the following "There is one Stripe Balance" statement... But also, if this is all the case, why does the payout schedule setting have such a strong effect as to change what set of funds are drawn from? (you don't have to explain why, but can you confirm that that's the case?)
