Hi 👋 no, that is not possible. Subscriptions with a free trial are still expected to generate a $0 Invoice for the trial period.
But I've flagged your feedback with our teams that this is something you'd like to be able to explicitly control in the future.

No, I don't have any insight into that. I'd recommend proceeding under the assumption that the feature won't be built, and determine how to best work with the existing system behavior.
