@distant pumice no, Checkout doesn't support that feature. We don't really have the concept of a "default payment method for future payments" unless you use our Billing product
tutley_checkout-defaultpm
OK so then another question: is there a way to setup a subscription with usage-based billing that immediately charges the customer whenever usage is reported?
ah wait if you use Subscriptions we already make it the default
But no we don't have something like what you describe for usage-based billing. It's kind of the opposite of what usage-based billing is usually used for
Right
We're trying to allow for "pay as you go" customers
so there's a subscription plan, and they get a certain amount of usage per month. Then there's "pay as you go" and we charge them immediately on usage
or that's the idea
yeah that's not a common way of doing usage-based I think
so it looks like we'll have to redirect them to the checkout session page on stripe every single time
not really sorry, there are many ways to do a lot of this, just unclear right now what you want
You can charge someone for $10, save their card, and later charge them again for $17 on Monday and $23 on Friday based on their usage, that's totally allowed and supported
save their card?
So I'm currently using stripe.checkout.sessions.create for the first charge (the setup fee)
that takes them to the checkout portal in stripe
how would I save their card?
