Hello! Usually you would create a new, replacement Invoice for them to pay.
is it possible to link that new invoice to an existing subscription?
No, not really. You could specify the Subscription's ID in the new Invoice's metadata, but that's not a direct link between the two, just an extra bit of info on the Invoice object.

do you know what resetting the billing cycle does and if it might help in this scenario?
I doubt it will help. That will change when the customer is billed.
It will produce a new Invoice, but it very likely won't be for the amount you want.
