Ty, it's a new question, my main goal is to disambiguate the error message, which seems to imply that if there is a payment method on file then the request should succeed. Because in the example I provided, the customer for which this request is sent does have a Credit Card on file (although it's not marked as default).

Hello! For Subscriptions/Invoice we will only automatically attempt payment with the default payment method on file.
