Yes that same parameter has a subparameter for promotion codes https://docs.corp.stripe.com/api/checkout/sessions/create#create_checkout_session-discounts-promotion_code

Promotion codes are the things that users can actually type in to checkout to apply a coupon. Putting in the coupon's ID directly does not work as far as I am aware
