Yeah, I'm aware of this. My question is more like does stripe always apply the tax irrespective of whether the tax id is present with the customer or not?

basically we don't validate the TAX ID but rather the format

#

and the taxes are calculated based on the customer's location/address

#

rather than on the Tax ID

#

the Tax ID is for Invoices/Billing purposes
