You'd effectively want to manage that initial payment manually with the hold/auth amount and capture or cancel it depending on the outcome of your application flow

Then the subscription would be created with either a trial or a free price for the initial period, if appropriate

@placid needle gotcha - that's kinda what we've figured out. So if I'm understanding, the first payment would not technically be associated with the subscription, but then we'd just set the subscription up to start billing on the "renewal" date?

Correct

You can't do the auth/capture flow within a subscription invoice payment flow, so you have to manage that separate
