Okay perfect that is basically the clarification I was looking for! The docs were not clear on this, and I definitely didnt want to get it wrong 🙂

So having the end_behavior as release and any end_date on the phase should be fine?

In the stipe UI I can select "forever" but i did notice when I did that and pulled down the sub schedule data that the end date for that item showed as just a month out (on a monthly subscription). Should I be careful to set an end date that cooresponds to their billing cycle or does it even matter?

Yes! I'd recommend using test clock to give a try and ensure that the behaviour is expected: https://stripe.com/docs/billing/testing/test-clocks
