we will also establish an Australian platform account, if that helps.
What fees exactly?
royalties, transfers for franchise instruments like gift cards used between franchisees, etc.
Got it ok. So, no there's not a straightforward way to draw from their bank account directly. To do this, I'd recommend creating a customer object for them on your platform and charging them that way (they could add bank account for a bank debit payment method)
yeah, that's what we're doing in the US at the moment, where we can manually capture bank account information and then attach that bank account to a connected account as well as a customer. Allowing the merchant to only enter their bank account information once. In Australia because of BECS we foresee having to get the merchant to enter their bank account information twice to accomplish this. We were hoping not to have to do that.
we prefer to use Elements going forward. But feel it would be a bad merchant experience if we ask them to enter their bank account twice. Is there a way to attach a resulting payment method to a connected account as an external account and also to a customer for charges?
thanks
Yeah the whole mandate requirement makes this tricky

I do think it'll need to be collected twice
it will
I also read somewhere about "cloning" a payment method. Maybe there's an option there?
No that won't work (sorry on the same time as codename_duchess, just taking over)
What you are trying to do is impossible today unfortunately. You have to collect it twice and there's no way around it. It's something we want to support one day but it's not planned for now
was afraid of that, but hey, it's worth a try 🙂
