Customer portal is only required if you want your customer to manage their details and subscription

Otherwise, it's not a requirement for using pricing table

I want to limit customer for one subscription. In there if customer already has a subscription he should be redirected to customer portal. Also customer should be able to update paymeny method and should be able to cancel subscription using customer portal.
For these scenario do I need to activate customer portal in live mode?
