What do you mean by coming up with a sign in, what are you trying to do exactly?

That's an API endpoint, you need to use a tool like Postman etc and provide credentials
username, broadly speaking, with an empty password
but I'd suggest using Postman/Insomnia/etc to do this

it worked! just putting the api key into the username
it seems to just have an eventually_due value
I assume that is what it is talking about
Is there any way i can get the onboarding wizard to always ask for the id docs first time through?

Yes, looks like it. You'll likely want to send your account-holders to Conenct onboarding using collect=eventually_due to satisfy that:
