I'm afraid this is not possible. Subscription will only be past_due or unpaid if the payment fails

But the payment attempt is made as soon as the sub reaches the end date right?

okay let's say i have setup some retries, so if a payment has failed, will it wait till the retry date to change the status or it will immediately change it when the first attempt fails?
