To prevent subscription being canceled due to unpaid invoice, the setting can be done in https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/billing/automatic
Sign in to the Stripe Dashboard to manage business payments and operations in your account. Manage payments and refunds, respond to disputes and more.
For the affected subscription, I'd recommend creating the new subscription and give the discount on the billing cycle that the customer has paid for
