Hi there, it's entirely up to the card issuer and your radar rule determine whether to approve or decline a expired card. see https://support.stripe.com/questions/can-an-expired-card-still-be-charged-on-stripe

thanks @chrome copper ! The other part of that question is… if we update the expiry (https://stripe.com/docs/sources/cards#updating-a-card-source-expiration-date) does that tend to improve the chances that the bank will approve the charge?
I can't answer this question because it's still up to the card issuer to decide.
ok makes sense. I guess a related question, can I just confirm that Stripe does send the expiry date I have on file to the bank in the attempt to make a charge?
Yes you are right
ok super, thanks!
happy to help!
oh sorry one more probably stupid question… at the underlying level (in terms of what info is stored by Stripe on a card object) can you think of any difference between just updating the expiry fields vs adding a new card source (with the matching card digits as the old card but with the updated expiry number)?
