Actually sorry let's back up a second.
Is the downgrade going to be the same interval (like monthly to monthly)?
Or different interval for your Price?
Both. Customers may downgrade to a lower plan or interval (or both)
Proration should not happen in case of downgrades

Then yeah what I linked above (Subscription Schedules) is the right way to do this.
So you basically create a second phase that starts at the end of the Billing Period with the new downgraded Price
What would be the first phase?
The current Subscription phase

The second phase basically does not have an end_date thus it's gonna be released, right?
