Unfortunately the currency cannot change as far as I am aware. That being said, you may still be able to charge these customers in other currencies. Do you get errors when you create an invoice for them in another currency?
Darn, so if I want to set up a subscription with a different currency that is just not possible? It would only work if we want to set up a one time invoice for customers? (when i try to set up a sub it says it is defaulting to the customers currency)
I am trying to set up a one time invoice but I still only see $ within the payment portal, even though I have added a different price with a different currency for a product in the product catalog
Do you have a suggestion for a workaround if we have customers in this state? that would like to be paying in a different currency but have already paid us?
I am in test mode
And you have tried this and are getting errors?
Apologies the server is very busy so I haven't been able to test myself
Trying to think of a workaround if that is erroring
Erroring if I am just trying it through the dashboard? and you are saying setting a sub should work or just a one time invoice?
I'm frankly unsure if either would work. Dashboard and API should get the same response, so if you test this and get an error that will be informative for how both work
Okay well I can't even select a different currency in the dashboard
Gotcha, so it sounds like that is still a restriction on customers. Apologies, I thought we recently relaxed that restriction but it seems that I am thinking of something else.
I will check with my colleagues to see what your options are here. You unfortunately may need to create a new Customer and collect a new payment method if you want to charge the same customer in another currency but I will double check.
thank you
I also just tried on a test account that has nothing created. I had a quote and cancelled it, and I can not change the currency
So it looks like the restriction is what subscriptions the user currently has on their account. If you delete all existing subscriptions, you can then create a new subscription in a different currency https://stripe.com/docs/invoicing/multi-currency-customers
I also created a quote on a different customer and left it in draft and tried to cancel and can't change the currency
So for example you could cancel all USD subscriptions on a customer and then create an EUR one
I tried that and its not working
One moment, taking that back to my colleagues. Apologies this is so confusing
If you delete the draft quote does that allow you to make new subscriptions?
A draft quote may still count as an active thing of a certain currency in this scenario
Actually I think it was just not showing up with the ability to change it on the customer record but it does let you start a new sub in a new currency even if it is not editable in the customer details. I think I was able to figure it out! Thank you!
Nice! Glad you could get there, and apologies again for the confusion around this. Thanks for the patience here
