Don't think customer portal is equipped to handle this usecase by default. Not aware of any third-party solutions either.

What happens when oyu create multi-product subscription?
I mean, have you tested that with customer portal?
As we have to select the products here that should be enabled, it basically forces the user to choose between the main product (which is required), and an add-on service in the customer portal.
I mean in the case of registering the products as seperate services.
Gotcha. hmm yeah, can't think of an alternative unfortunately.
You'd rather want to build the UI for this yourself as that might be more benefitial for your usecase

Yeah, you'd get granular control over the UI features in that case and you can build whatever flow you want to support
