AFAIK, if you're using physical readers like the WisePOS E then yes, if using tap-to-pay then no, Locations are for physical fleet mangement of card readers

Okay, I want to use tap to pay but when searching the docs I can't seem to find a way to initialize the useStripeTerminal hook without going through the process of creating locations and getting the connection tokens

Yeah I'm wrong, you do need to register a location.
