Hello! You're correct that Plaid is a deprecated integration and we don't recommend you use it. Can you tell me more about what exactly your customers are asking about?
Thank you! I think there is confusion about if Plaid supports the new Stripe ACH method or if it's not recommended to use Plaid at all. It appears the main benefit for our customers using Plaid is they potentially support more countries - since our product is largely distributed around the globe, it could mean some customers require it for ach payments
Plaid is not involved in the newer ACH integration at all.
What countries do you want to support?
Both the new and old ACH approaches you linked to support the US only, so I'm not sure what the country support you're referring to means.
Oh interesting, sorry i didn't realize that. It's hard to say which countries specifically but to clarify - is Stripe's ach payment method just for the US?
Yes.
If you look at the top of https://stripe.com/docs/ach-deprecated it says "This is a US-only, legacy guide for accepting ACH payments with our older Charges and Sources API integration."
That's the one with Plaid.
The new one, https://stripe.com/docs/payments/ach-debit, also indicates it's US only.
Got it! thanks for clearing that up. Finally, in terms of supporting ACH payments with Stripe Payment Element - it appears there is additional work to make that happen outside of just using automatic_payment_methods right?
No? I mean you have to enable it in the Dashboard and whatnot.
Ohh okay well that's easy! I think I was looking at the docs for integration just the ach payments - but if it automatically works with payment element we're good
You can test it in test mode to make sure it does what you expect, but yeah, if you're using Payment Element it should be straightforward.
amazing, thank you!
Happy to help!
Signing off, have a good one!
You too!
