I think that the rest of the page is irrelevant. What's may be important is that once the payment is finished we're redirecting customer to confirmation page and this is what happened also in this case but for some reason this panel didn't close as expected.

Regarding code on receiving 'paymentmethod' we're proceeding with submitting form which results in AJAX call where PaymentIntent is created and client secret returned. Then using this client secret and payment method ID returned inside payment request event we're trying to confirm card payment and call callback with appropriate status complete / fail.

Yes, in case of Google Pay payments paymentRequestEvent is always set
