That's unfortunately a part of free trials. There's only so much you can validate on the card without charging it. For example, the card might have sufficient funds at the start of the trial but then might not later. No way to know that ahead of time
Users are using that method as a sort of default way to cancel the free trial. At the end of the trial their account converts to a paid account. A week or two later when they add enough funds my charge goes through and they file a fraud complaint with their bank. What would you recommend changing my billing settings to try and avoid these chargebacks for people forgetting / neglecting to cancel their accounts.
Up to you, but you can adjust your retry settings here: https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/billing/automatic so it doesn't retry as much
