You choose whether final invoice payent failure cancels the subscription or not
If you leave it running, yes new invoices would be generated later and payment attempted
you can continue to try collecting payent on the past invoice with your own systems

No I don't expect it would stop, but you can test this will Billing test clocks to see the behaviour:

YOu could mark and unpaid, which would produce a subscription update webhook event, then you could optionally use Pause COllection if that's the behaviour you wanted: https://stripe.com/docs/billing/subscriptions/pause
