Hello! No, insufficient funds declines can and do happen on credit cards as well, and those declines are not limited to a specific card brand.
what does it mean for a credit card to be declined due to insufficient funds? Like if I were a user who got that message, I wouldn't be sure what to do
(thank you for your response, by the way!)
It means the payment in question would put them over their limit. For example, let's say I have a credit card with a $1,000 credit limit. If I make $950 worth of purchases, then try to buy something for $100, the charge will be declined because I don't have sufficient funds; the charge amount would put me over my $1,000 limit because the total for all charges on my card wold be $1,050 at that point.
oh okay. Reading the docs I thought credit limits would cause a card_velocity_exceeded decline code; thanks for clearing that up!
It's important to note that different card issuers emit different decline codes based on their own internal logic, and the behavior is not consistent from one issuer to another.
ahh I see
