This is something we're currently working on. PaymentElement doesn't yet allow you to retrieve zip on change event.
I suppose the alternative would be to disable the desired fields.billingDetails in the Payment Element and separately recreate those fields,
Yeah the alternative would be for you to collect this info yourself.
If it fits your usecase, you can also use address element

Unfortunately, the Address Element doesn't seem to support filtering the list of fields. For example, if we wanted to dynamically determine based on the type from the Payment Element change event which fields to display.
That would give us the styling, locale, and other great features that come from Elements. It would still leave us with the issue of fitting it into the overall UI so, for example, the Country and Zip input didn't come after a displayed text Mandate.
I was really hoping to avoid a 2-step process to minimize friction too. 😦
Are there any plans for a beta of the Payment Element that would support retrieving or listening to events to get the zip code?
Just trying to get a feel for what I should plan on doing: 🙂
- Holding off on the change from Card → Payment element
- Either for a beta or proper long-term solution
- Use one of the less-than-ideal approaches
