You can only clone from a Platform -> Connected Account

so theres no way of storing a card during payment to the platform account?

Not during the Direct Charge because it occurs on the Connected Account along with all the records associated with it

If you want to to achieve that flow you would creat ethe Payment Method on the Platform using a Setup Intent, clone the PM to the Connected Account, and then create the Direct Charge using the cloned Payment Method
