i just would like to learn when i make a payment on a website that uses stripe, is my card information safe, do the website owners get any details about my card information, would really appreciate if you answered

Hey @stray sapphire it's all in our API documentation: https://stripe.com/docs/api/payment_methods/object for example. Merchants will see the last 4 digits, the brand, expiration date, etc. but they won't see the full card number or the CVC for example

That does depend a bit on their integration though since it's possible for them to build a UI that collects all those details themselves and store it (but then they have to meet higher rules for PCI compliance)

wouldnt it be illegal for them to watch my actions on their website and collect my card information?

There's no "law" for that so no? There are rules and standards you have to meet, like PCI compliance, but lots of businesses are allowed to handle and store card details (we are for example)

how can i find out if a business does meet PCI compliance and is allowed to store card details, forexample openai uses stripe as far as i know, would they include this information on their privacy policy?

No idea I'm sorry. This Discord server is for developers asking questions about their Stripe integration and code. It looks like you're more an end customer worried about your card details but I can't really help or advise with this beyond recommending to only pay on websites you fully trust
